When I was looking for a new hobby, I initially decided that I wanted to learn to draw. I went to YouTube, searched "drawing tutorials for beginners," and off I went. I practiced drawing for a while, but I wanted to apply that skill to something that I could use. I'm more of a practical person, and I don't like the look of drawings as wall art. I decided that painting was a better option. I could use my paintings to decorate my home, and eventually, when I was good enough, I could sell them. So, I started by searching YouTube again. This time for "acrylic painting for beginners." I found a ton of resources, but I had to sift through those resources until I found artists that I could follow. You know, artists that were really good at teaching the basics. I thought it might help you beginning painters if I did some of that work for you and gave you a few of my favorite teaching artists, so here you go!
1. The Art Sherpa - I absolutely love this artist. Unfortunately, she has passed away, so there won't be any new content, but the content she has posted is gold. She is easy to follow, and she has content teaching the basics as well as step by step videos that you can paint along with and practice those techniques. Here is a link to her complete beginner acrylic painting course. I love to paint animals, and owls are one of my favorite animals, so here is a link to a tutorial for a colorful owl. This one was so easy and so much fun.
2. Angela Anderson - She does live tutorials, but they are recorded and saved to her channel. Hers and her husband's banter is very entertaining. Her husband helps her by recording and reading the comments while she is painting. He goes back and forth between her pallet and her canvas so that you can see her mixing the paint as well as her painting techniques, and she talks you through every step of the process. She also has a beginner basics playlist. I love painting flowers as well. Here is a tutorial for a beautiful sunflower.
3. Michelle the Painter - Some of this artist's paintings are a little more detailed and advanced than you may want to begin with; however, she is easy to follow and has tons of tutorials on her channel. Here's a pretty simple one you may want to try once you get the basics down. It's called Ladybug Lucky.
I hope these resources are helpful. The most important thing is to relax and have fun. Comment below and let me know what other content you would like to see. To shop my painting and printed items as well as other crafts, click here!
